About the Project

Inspired by New York Times Best-Selling novel The Black Prism by Brent Weeks, experience the vibrance of the Seven Satrapies through your own prismatic ~~eyes~~ ears!

The Black Prism is the beginning of a story that explores the many facets of what it means to "do the next right thing," even in the midst of darkness. Join Kip in discovering what it means to be the bastard son of the most powerful man in the known world as he joins Gavin, Karris, and a spectrum of other characters.

This album presents these stories through epic, cinematic orchestral music from a team of professional Hollywood composers. THE BLACK PRISM is the official musical companion for the Lightbringer saga by Brent Weeks.

THE BLACK PRISM was made possible first and foremost by our incredible community of fans, supporters, collaborators, and friends. We wish we could thank each of your individually, but please know that you are both the purpose and the platform that allows us to do what we do.

Through your support we were able to assemble an incredible strike-force of creatives and composers to deliver the first-ever licensed book score for Brent Weeks' Lightbringer novel The Black Prism.

Michael Bahnmiller (Orange)

Studio Head, The Black Piper

Michael is a compassionate dreamer with a profound desire to tell meaningful, emotional stories through music. The Black Piper is the realization of that dream: assemble a team of like-minded creatives with backgrounds in the music production industry from Hollywood and beyond to create unique musical experiences for books from your favorite authors unlike anything you’ve ever heard before.

Michael has been fortunate to write music that has been performed/recorded by orchestras, choirs, and soloists around the world. He has composed music for Academy Award-winning producer Rob Fried (Rudy), as well as for the Library of Congress.

As an orchestrator and composer, Michael has had the great fortune to assist (and be mentored by) Philip Klein, and as a music preparer, Michael has had the opportunity to work with Conrad Pope and Kevin Kaska, and has worked on films such as The Jungle Book, Independence Day: Resurgence, The BFG, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Jason Bourne, among others.

Michael lives in Utah with his family, enjoys reading (duh), and likes to kayak when he’s not fiddling around with his Armenian woodwind instrument known as a duduk.
